Act An Act of Parliament. A statute; a law passed by the legislature. Address for service A place given by a party to a court proceeding for the delivery of documents filed by another party, or documents issued by the court. (See also Service of documents.)
Adjourn To postpone a court hearing to another date and/or place. Affidavit A statement in writing and on oath (or affirmation), sworn (or affirmed) before someone who has authority to administer it.
Agency A government department or organisation (eg New Zealand Police, Oranga Tamariki,
Ministry of Social Development).
Appeal A complaint to a higher court about an injustice or error committee by a lower court (or tribunal).
Appellant The person making a complaint to a higher court about an injustice or error committee by a lower court (or tribunal).
Appellate Court A court to which an appeal is made.
Applicant The person who makes an application to a court.
Application A request to a court. Also the name of the document that contains the request. (This is not a piece of software.)
Arrest court The court before which a person who has been arrested first appears.
Authorised organisation A group of Solution users linked to an organisation (eg a law office).
Authorised user An external user of the Solution who has had their identity verified.
